Getting Started: Upper School

The purpose of this page is to provide you with an initial launching point for your introduction to Upper School (Grades 9–12) at La Jolla Country Day School. Please check this page regularly for updates.

Get to Know Country Day Families

We will host some family gatherings over the spring/summer. You will have opportunities to RSVP for a summer gathering date to meet other new students, current students and parents.

New Parent Happy Hour
Join us for an evening of conversation, community and connection with parents of all newly admitted students and members of the Torrey community from across all grades.

Families are invited to enjoy ice cream, games and Torrey community connection across all grades.

Summer Meetups
Families sign up and can organize summer meetups with other LJCDS families.
You will receive invitations for grade-specific meetups throughout the summer.

Upper School Placement Tests

New students need to take placement tests. All students will take a math placement test. A world language placement test is only required if they want to take a class that is higher than level I.

Math (in-person)
Saturday, May 17, 9-10:30 a.m.
Tuesday, May 20, 4-5:30 p.m.

World Language (virtual)
Self-proctored online. The virtual link will be emailed to your family once you register. 
Saturday, May 17th, 8 a.m. until Sunday, May 25, 3 p.m.

Virtual Grade 9 and 10 Orientation and Course Selection

In case you missed the course selection program, please see the information below. As always, if you have questions regarding courses, please contact Dr. Clouser at rclouser@ljcds.org.

Please complete the appropriate course selection form below no later than Friday, May 2, at 3 p.m.
Grade 11 students should email Dr. Clouser (rclouser@ljcds.org) directly to complete their course selection.

Upper School Athletic Information

All Class of 2029 students must complete a minimum of one sports season during their freshman year.
