Our students’ intellectual, social and emotional well-being is the catalyst for all we do at La Jolla Country Day School (LJCDS). We know that diversity contributes to a more enriching teaching and learning experience, and we are committed to creating an environment where every member of our community feels like they belong. We embrace people with open hearts and minds. We believe in the inherent worth and value of all people.
Our Aspiration
We strive to build an inclusive community that encourages civility and curiosity in discourse and dialogue. We value the myriad of lived experiences and perspectives that prepare students to thrive personally and professionally in an increasingly interconnected, global society. We invite constructive conversations with differing or opposing views in order to give us all the necessary skills to shape our future with openness, empathy and compassion.
Our Promise
LJCDS is working to create and sustain a diverse, equitable and inclusive community for students, faculty and staff of all backgrounds. Through our commitment to inclusion, belonging and systemic equality, we will create a community of learners committed to an environment that promotes curiosity and the exploration of all aspects of identity. We pledge to grow as an institution and a community.
Our Work
To live out this truth, fulfill our promise, and work toward our aspirations, we will:
Recognize that we are all learning, growing and evolving around issues of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Extend to each other grace, latitude and the assumption of positive intent as we lean into this space of learning and growing.
Thoughtfully engage with the changing realities of our diverse society and promote authentic conversations around people’s identities and lived experiences.
Challenge the assumptions and biases that keep us stuck.
Acknowledge those most impacted by systems of oppression.
Students create affinity or alliance groups based on their need for support or where they feel comfortable. Below are a sample of current or past groups.
Parents and guardians who support the goal of CCB and are seeking ways to create joy and community at LJCDS can engage in events or projects. Two examples are:
“CCB is not about race, it’s about people. It’s for community members who support showing empathy and accepting others for who they are.” ~Dr. Thompson
