The arts programs at La Jolla Country Day School forward our mission of developing scholars, artists and athletes of character. While our students strive to excel in academics, they also have opportunities to give a strong voice to their creative manifestations as artists. The Lower School arts programs build a compelling foundation for further exploration and concentrated study of the opportunities in the Middle School.

Upper School electives continue that growth trajectory with opportunities at advancing levels of study and performance. Our programs are vertically articulated from Lower through Upper School, and our arts faculty work collaboratively across divisions on curriculum development and effective implementation.

The strongest feature of the arts department is our passionate and accomplished faculty, all hired as practicing artists in their individual fields. In addition to their experience and talent, they exhibit strong communication and pedagogical skills that clearly motivate our students. Mentored by these expert teachers, our students develop their individual skills and talents and learn to work collaboratively in performances, galleries and productions. Lasting close relationships continue long past graduation and college as students return to LJCDS to visit faculty and share their established careers with current students.

While we recognize that all of our students will not become artists, we also know that the artistic journey is a powerful and transformative process that informs the sciences as well as the arts and humanities. At LJCDS, we look to partner with design thinking, service learning and more to foster innovation in all areas of our curriculum. At the same time, we will continue our mission to shape and promote our artists of today and of the future with ground-breaking programming and new technologies that support all that we do in the name of arts at LJCDS.
