Title: Race, Rap, and Redemption
Talk Description: The most pressing civil rights issue in America today is police brutality and racialized mass incarceration (aka “The New Jim Crow”). Drawing on his exuberantly interdisciplinary brand of Critical Race Theory and his own personal experience, Professor Armour will discuss the intersection of popular culture, the performing arts, law, morality, politics. He will contend that to rise to the challenge of this historic moment, we must have a revolution in consciousness!
Speaker Bio: Bio/Description Jody David Armour is the Roy P. Crocker Professor of Law at the University of Southern California. Armour’s expertise focuses on the relationship between racial justice, criminal justice, and the rule of law. His recent book addresses three core concerns of the Black Lives Matter movement—namely, racial profiling police brutality, and mass incarceration. He has recently completed a second book that examines law, language, and moral luck in the criminal justice system.
