LJCDS community members are invited to join the Upper School students as they welcome notable scholar, academic leader, and poet Mary F. Lenox, Ph.D. She will share her story and read her poetry.
BIO Dr. Lenox earned a Bachelor of Science from Chicago State University, a Master of Arts from Dominican University, a Doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and further studies at Harvard University. She received a Kellogg National Leadership Fellowship and is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, an honorary society for outstanding educators.
In her career, Dr. Lenox was a school librarian, university professor, and the first African American dean at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her travels have taken her across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Kenya, and Tanzania, and she has shared her expertise as a visiting professor at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa.
After retiring, she dedicated herself to writing poetry. She is the author of three books of poems: Threads of Grace: Selected Poems Riches of Life: Poems Seeing the Sacred in the Ordinary
