Alumnus receives the NLCS MVP Award and a trip to the World Series.
Congratulations to Tommy Edman ’13, named the Most Valuable Player of the 2024 National League Championship Series on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024! Tommy had two hits in Game 6, including a two-run home run in the third inning that helped secure the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 10-5 win at Dodger Stadium, eliminating the New York Mets. With this victory, the Dodgers advanced to the World Series to face the New York Yankees.

UPDATE: Tommy can now add World Series Champion to his stats after the team’s Game 5 win over the New York Yankees on Oct. 30, 2024. Two days later, Tommy (and his son Eli) joined the downtown LA parade and championship rally in front of a packed Dodger Stadium.

From 2010 to 2013, Tommy was a four-year starter for Torrey baseball and played under his father, Coach John Edman, a math educator and baseball coach at LJCDS. As a freshman, Tommy set the single-season record for runs scored, and in his sophomore year, helped lead the Torreys to the first CIF baseball championship in school history. Tommy holds the LJCDS career record for hits, runs, stolen bases, and ERA.

Tommy went on to play baseball at Stanford University, where he earned a degree in math and computational science. At Stanford, he was named First-team All-Pac-12, All-Pac-12 Defensive Team, and All-Pac-12 Academic Team. The St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the sixth round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut in 2019 and earned the National League Gold Glove at second base in 2021.

Together with Olympic gold medalist, 2x WNBA champ, and 2013 classmate Kelsey Plum, Tommy was inducted into the 2023 LJCDS Athletic Hall of Fame as an individual athlete and part of the winning 2011 baseball team. Read more about the induction ceremony and Tommy’s awards.
