PREPARING FOR THE COLLEGE ADMISSION PROCESS

Central San Diego Case Studies Program 2024

The purpose of the Central San Diego Case Studies Program on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 is for students and parents to meet collectively as a mock admissions committee. In those committees, participants will be guided by current college admissions counselors who will discuss faux college applications. As a group, they will decide which students to accept, waitlist, and deny. It is the goal of this activity that attendees will begin to understand the ways in which a college application is read, the common mistakes made by many students, and the nuances that go into application review.

Following the case studies, a college fair will take place with more than 60 colleges in attendance. The majority of these representatives will be the people reading your applications next year, so don’t miss the opportunity to introduce yourself, demonstrate interest, and ask questions.

Participating students and families from past years have shared that this program was one of the most enlightening experiences they had throughout the college counseling process. We strongly encourage your attendance.

This event is open to 11th-grade students/families from La Jolla Country Day School, The Bishop's School, Francis Parker School, High Tech High Schools, and KIPP San Diego.

In an effort to “go green,” the cases that will be used during the program are posted on this page. It is recommended that participants read each file carefully ahead of time, taking note of the differences among each applicant. Printed applications will not be made available on-site, although you are invited to print your own copy at home and bring it with you the night of the program. SPANISH LANGUAGE CASES

We will be offering a Spanish case studies program for parents. If you would like to participate in this room, please reach out to your college counselor at your respective school to plan accordingly. COLLEGE FAIR: REGISTER THROUGH STRIVE SCAN!

We will be using Strive Scan to simplify the college fair portion of the evening. Students and Caretakers must register for a barcode before the program on Strive Scan. Upon submission, you will be texted and emailed a barcode. Please keep this accessible.

During the fair, you’ll show your barcode to colleges who will scan it to send you more information about their schools. The day after the fair, you will receive a report with information on the colleges with whom you scanned.

Once you register an account with StriveScan, it will stay with you throughout your college search process.

PARKING FOR JUNIOR FAMILIES
Junior families will park in the main Genesee Ave. Parking lot of LJCDS and students will be assisting to help guide you to your location.

As our main lot fills up, you may be directed to overflow parking in our other lots on Eastgate Mall or Regents Road. If all lots on campus fill up, you may have to park off campus.

OFF-CAMPUS PARKING/OVERFLOW PARKING
As parking is limited on the LJCDS campus, an option for off-campus parking is to pay for parking at UCSD. Parking is available on the UCSD campus across Regents Road/Health Sciences Drive in section 4762. Those parking on the UCSD campus will have to pay a parking fee. Please use the UCSD Transportation parking mobile application called ParkMobile. This application would be used to pay for parking on the UCSD campus for a daily parking fee.

COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVES
College representatives will park in the LJCDS gym lot located on the South side of campus on Eastgate Mall.
