The La Jolla Country Day football and cleerleading teams opened their 2016 season in Hawaii last weekend.
170 members of the Big Blue football and cheer communites (athletes, coaches, trainer, student trainers and managers and parents and family members) departed for Hawaii last Thursday and, although the JV and varsity teams came up short on the scoreboard, everyone enjoyed an extreemly rewarding experience. Included in the fun was an island style beach BBQ dinner, a luau, a hike up iconic Diamond Head, breakfast on the beach and good times with team mates on Waikiki Beach. The varsity played 'Iolani School and the JV's took on Punahou and both schools were terrific hosts and showed a ton of Aloha spirit.
The varsity played in 'Iolani's 53rd Annual Father Bray Memorial Classic at the school's Kuzuki Stadium. With 'Iolani owning a 2-0 record and #9 ranking in the state of Hawaii and LJCDS opening their season ranked #1 in CIF SDS's Div. IV, what promissed to be a great game between 2 outstanding teams did not disapoint. The game came down to the last drive of the contest with the Torreys coming up just short 19-27. University of Arizona committ, QB Braxton Burmeister '17 led Country Day with 292 yds. passing, 1 TD and 1 Int. Brax added 88 yds. rushing and another TD on the ground.
